.Yves Piaget is one of those roses people mistake for a peony. Each bloom is a deep pink, very full cup of about 80 frilled petals, up to 13 cm (5") across, with a strong, classic rose fragrance. Bred by Marie-Louise Meilland in France and introduced in 1983, this hybrid tea has won eight prizes at international rose trials, including gold medals at Geneva and Le Roeulx and the Fragrance Cup at Bagatelle in Paris. It is a compact, upright, bushy plant of about 80–105 cm, so it fits easily in a bed, along a path or in a large container. It repeats through the season, and the blooms are excellent for cutting, lasting about a week in the vase. It is sold in some parts of the world as Queen Adelaide or Royal Brompton Rose. Give it full sun and rich soil, and plan to protect it over winter in colder parts of Canada: mound soil or mulch over the base so the graft is covered.
A rose for the cutting garden and anyone who loves a big, fragrant, peony-style bloom.
