Strawberry Hill is an English climbing rose from David Austin, introduced in 2006 and named after Horace Walpole’s Gothic Revival house in Twickenham, London. It holds the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit. Large, cupped rosettes of mid-pink, about 120 petals each, come in small clusters and fade paler as they age. David Austin calls them beautiful at every stage. The fragrance is strong, myrrh with a note of heather honey. It repeats in flushes from late spring into fall. As a short climber reaching about 3 m, it has arching canes and very glossy dark green foliage. It suits a wall or fence about 1.8 m high, a doorway, an obelisk, a pillar or an arch. Give it full sun and an east-, south- or west-facing spot. It grows in all soil types and is rated hardy to zone 4.
