St Swithun is an English rose from David Austin, introduced in 1993 to mark the 900th anniversary of the consecration of Winchester Cathedral. David Austin now sells it as a short climber, about 3 m tall. The blooms are large and saucer-shaped, packed with around 130 frilly petals, in soft pink that fades to blush at the edges. They have a medium-strong myrrh fragrance and repeat in flushes from late spring into fall. The plentiful greyish-green foliage sets the flowers off well. It suits a wall or fence about 1.8 m high, a doorway, an obelisk, a pillar or an arch. Give it full sun and an east-, south- or west-facing spot. It grows in all soil types and is rated hardy to zone 4.
A vigorous, cold-hardy David Austin climber with large soft-pink blooms and a myrrh scent.
