South Africa is a grandiflora from Kordes in Germany, introduced in 2006 and part of its Sunbelt collection of roses selected to perform in heat and dry conditions. It has won several major awards, including a Gold Medal at Glasgow in 2006, the UK Gold Standard in 2009, and a Gold Medal at the Australian National Rose Trials in 2018. The large, double blooms, 7–10 cm across, are a rich, glowing golden amber that resists fading, even in full sun and summer heat. They come in clusters from late spring to late fall, carry a moderate fragrance, and make good cut flowers. The plant is upright, 120–150 cm tall, with dark green foliage and excellent disease resistance.
An award-winning golden-amber Kordes rose that holds its colour in summer heat.
