Sonnenwelt is a shrub rose from Kordes in Germany, bred by Tim Hermann Kordes and introduced in 2012. The name means roughly “sunny world.” Pointed buds open into very double, globe-shaped, old-fashioned blooms about 7–8 cm across, in warm apricot with yellow undertones. They come singly or in small clusters, in repeat flushes through the season. The fragrance is moderate and fruity, noticeable up close rather than from across the garden. The plant is bushy and upright, up to about 130 cm tall and 80 cm wide, with semi-glossy, leathery foliage and solid disease resistance, as you’d expect from Kordes’ focus on healthy, low-spray roses. It’s also sold in France as Saint Adrien.
