Red Eden is a climber from Meilland in France, sold in Europe as Eric Tabarly and often compared with the famous Eden (Pierre de Ronsard) for its full, old-fashioned blooms. The flowers are crimson, very full with 100 to 110 petals, cupped and old-fashioned in form, and about 11 cm across. They have a classic rose scent, come in small clusters and repeat in flushes from late spring to frost. The plant climbs to 2–4.5 m and suits an arch, pillar, wall or pergola. It handles heat well, the foliage is disease resistant, and the blooms last well when cut. In long wet spells the heavy blooms can ball and fail to open, so give it full sun and good air flow. It's hardy to zone 6. In zone 5 and colder, protect the canes over winter.
