Carefree Wonder is a shrub rose from Meilland, bred by Alain Meilland and Jacques Mouchotte, the team behind Bonica. It won the All-America Rose Selections award in 1991. Its flowers are unusually large for a shrub rose, about 10 cm across and cupped: candy pink on the inside of the petals with a creamy white, pink-flushed reverse, softening to medium pink as they age. They come singly or in small clusters, in generous flushes from late spring until frost. The plant is bushy and rounded, about 90–150 cm tall, with semi-glossy, medium green foliage and very good disease resistance. It suits a border, an informal hedge, or a spot where you want plenty of pink without much fuss. If you leave the last flowers on in fall, it sets orange hips that hold through the winter. The scent is mild.
Big, two-tone pink flowers on an easy, reliable shrub.
