Canadian Shield was bred by Larry Dyck at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Morden station and released by Vineland Research and Innovation Centre in 2017, the year Canada turned 150. It was the first rose in Vineland's 49th Parallel Collection and was named Canada Blooms' Plant of the Year that summer. The flowers are a true deep red, very full and about 7–8 cm across, and they keep their colour right through to full bloom. They come in continuous flushes from early summer until frost. The glossy, dark green foliage resists black spot and powdery mildew. The plant is hardy to −35°C on its own roots, so it comes back reliably after a hard Canadian winter. It grows into a semi-upright shrub of about 120–150 cm, which suits a mixed border, a low hedge, or any spot that needs dependable red all season. The scent is mild. It will also be the new logo rose of the Canadian Rose Society.

A tough, deep red rose bred in Canada, with Canada's 150th as its launch year.
